Jake Norris is recognized as one of the pioneers of the craft distilling revolution. In his role as founding Head Distiller for Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey in 2004, Jake led the production team of Colorado’s first micro-distillery and helped to create the first ever “Colorado Whiskey”. Stranahan’s was the first 100% wash based barley whiskey produced in an american style and the first micro spirit to breakout and hit the mainstream.
10 years later as founding head distiller of Laws Whiskey House, Jake helped to create A.D. Laws Four Grain Bourbon, the first four grain bourbon ever made in Colorado as well as Laws award winning straight rye whiskey, straight barley whiskey and straight corn whiskey. There are less than 20 Bottled In Bond whiskies in the world, A.D. Laws Four Grain Bourbon Bottled In Bond is one of them. Through his work at Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey and Laws Whiskey House, Jake has designed and distilled the whiskies that define the craft whiskey category.
As brand ambassador for both distilleries Jake has taught seminars at trade shows and hosted innumerable customer education events. Jake’s ability to share his passion for whiskey, making his knowledge accessible and easy to understand, sets him apart as an educator.
Jake’s work as a consultant has taken him across the country, designing distilleries, writing recipes, designing production, troubleshooting and training the next generation of craft distillers with an eye on ethical practices. While Jake is focused on whiskies, he has extensive experience in the production of vodka, gin, rum, agave spirit, as well as brandy and cordials.
Norris draws on his industry relationships with brand representatives and distributors to this day in his role as Co-founding President of The Denver Whiskey Club. The Denver Whiskey Club is an independent organization dedicated to empowering the consumer through impartial education and unique experience. His work with DWC has given him the opportunity to educate hundreds of emerging consumers, teaching techniques on critical tasting, quality evaluation and general whiskey knowledge. While hosting DWC technical educations, Norris often acts as a “technical translator” between visiting educators, clarifying the information for club members.
Whether leading an education or running the still, Jake has demonstrated his deep understanding and love for craft spirits, and earned his moniker as “Jake Whiskey”.
